Summary: Disappointed with the product
Comment: Ordered 16 pieces, tried 3 so far and they were defective, they would not recharge (liquefy). 8 pieces had cosmetic problems (double printed) and the vendor replaced those.

Don't know about the other 5.

These do not compare to the Prism zap packs.

Summary: Lots of fun, but you need to have more than one!
Comment: We have these - they are super cool to watch heat and fun to hold on to once they are warm.

Re-charging isn't a problem - we usually have a pot of simmering water on the stove (humidity), so once one of the warmers is used, we just pop it into the pot. I wouldn't do it in the microwave.

Once they look completely liquid again, we fish them out with a spoon. The only problem is that once a kid walks by - and sees a fresh warmer - he activates it! We can't keep them charged long enough! I want to get more....

Summary: try a microwave to recharge
Comment: I have similar units to this in the past. You can use a microwave to recharge, however, do not do it too long or the plastic will bust open and leak / destroy the unit.

simply put this device it in a bowl of water and you should try different settings on the microwave. I would recommend that you submerse the unit completely in the water. I usually do 2 sets of 15 seconds on high. My buddy use the same bowl, filled it up with water, but left it loose on top--floating on top of the water--he programmed 1 setting at 40 seconds and ruined his.

(note, these units come in different shapes and sizes. You should do a try and error for the best microwave setting.)

For storage, I would recomend that you leave it charged. I had a few in a box and forgot about them for 2 years. 2 of them automatically activated, and after I tried to recharge them, they still looked white and crystalized (but soft). I played with it several days later, and it was still white, soft crystalized until I pressed on the activation disc--it went to work, but I think it did not hold the charge as the others did. after a while it turned into a hard crystal.

I believe too much moisure evaporated out throught the plastic membrane over 2 years. Some side notes or research suggests taht some white crystals could accumulate from infrequent use--that leaving them in a water solution should help it re-hydrate some moisure. I think my case was a little more severe, oh well. I never used it after that--it never seem to hold a charge.

Overall it only seems to provide heat for 30-45 minutes. To me, it was not useful except something for little kids to play with. It is pretty safe--non-toxic, no flamable liquid, and it does not get hot enough to hurt anything.

I am still hoping to find a useful electric hand warmer, but, so far most of them do not produce enough heat.

Summary: It works, but totally impractical
Comment: Sure it works, it's also very fun to watch the liquid crystallizing during the chemical process. But ask yourself, do you have boiling water handy? Nope, even 194F water from those Japanese hot water dispenser isn't warm enough to recharge the unit. So you REALLY have to boil a bowl of water each & every single time in order to recharge this. Does it sound practical for you? Sure if you have a bunch of this to recharge at the same time, but for single unit, I guess not...

Editorial Reviews:

This amazing hand warmer would heats up in just 15 seconds and provide heat for up to 30 minutes. To reuse place in broiling water for 6 minutes until packet is back to liquid form, than let cool and it's ready to go again anytime anywhere. You are getting a box of 16 !
