Summary: Not really "stormproof"
Comment: Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I can barely get the flame out.
The spark system works once every 7-10 clicks of the button.
It takes a while to fuel the lighter, but it burns the gas very very fast.

Eventually when I was able to fully refuel the darn thing and light it, my friend was able to blow the flame with his breath from 2 feet away. So, which part of this thing is "storm proof" exactly?

If you are thinking about getting this piece to use for camping and/or survival, look elsewhere. This item is not trustworthy.

Summary: Great lighter for the price
Comment: This lighter is pretty small and durable. It is extremely windproof being that the wind has never blown it out once and i use it to light my cigars all the time. I have been using it for about a month now it still works great. The only negative is that it uses up a lot of butane fuel having such a strong flame and all. Otherwise well worth the money!

Summary: Bypass this and get the Helios
Comment: I've had a Helios (other Brunton lighter) for about a year and have had absolutely no problems with it so I figured I'd get this one for back up. I filled it the first time noticing the need to completely remove the cap each time I wanted to light it and the plastic bottom. I lit it with no problem and put it into my car. When I went to use it a few days later, it wouldn't light and I noticed it was out of fuel. I immediately thought it had leaked out due to a valve malfunction. When I tried to fill it again, the fuel spewed out everywhere. There is now a crack in the bottom glass and someplace on top underneath the thumb button. I'm in the process of returning it to Brunton for replacement, but don't really want another one exploding in my car.

Summary: Works well at sea level, beware at 8k' or higher
Comment: This lighter works great when you're at sea level, and if that's your goal then look no further. It is well built, and lights very easily when enough oxygen is present.

If, on the other hand, you take this lighter backpacking at elevations higher than 8,000 feet, then your mileage may vary. It takes a lot of convincing to light at all at these elevations, and you may find yourself without a flame at all.

The instructions advice to use premium butane fuel, and to set the fuel level to the lowest setting when at higher elevations, both of which I did. Unfortunately it still took 10-20 "clicks" before I got any sort of flame, which is unacceptable.

Summary: Finally, truth in advertising
Comment: This does what you need a storm proof lighter to do: the cap comes off, so you can get the flame closer to the tinder without burning your fingers off; it's tough and comes with a belt clip; and it has a powerful, torch-like flame. The only drawback is that you need to hold the button half-way down jfor about a second before depressing it all the way to ignite the fuel, otherwise, it doesn't light. No biggy. I bought a small Zippo because they are supposed to be somewhat windproof, but because I am not a smoker, it doesn't get much use and doesn't seem to stay primed and takes forever to light. Not a problem with the Brunton.
